MTV is running a contest
to win a date to the "Video Music Awards" (VMA's) with
the winner's star of choice. When Taylor Hughes and her
girlfriends hear about this, they decide to enter as a
joke. Little did Taylor, a blonde haired 30-year old
woman, know that she would infact win. To her dismay,
and not really her suprise, it turns out that the winner
wasn't actually the one who picked their celebrity date.
Still, Taylor being the good sport she is, is grateful
just to be in attendance. She is informed that she will
be escorted by Justin Timberlake to the VMA's -
certainly not exactly her date of choice, and infact
refers to him as egotistical and dreads having to put up
with him for an entire evening. Mr Timberlake lives up
to his expectations and turns out to be looking for one
thing and one thing only, whether Taylor wants to or
not. But not if Mr Marshall Mathers has any say in it. A
gallant, gentlemanly save and Taylor finds herself in
the gentle arms of her saviour, Eminem. As for the rest
of the story... you guys are simply going to have to
read yourself. ;) But believe me, it is well worth your
time.
The storyline of "A Night
To Remember" is so original and so very well done. The
title? Prophetic. For an ordinary girl like Taylor
Hughes, this really is "A Night To Remember", not only
does she prove her suspicious of Justin Timberlake being
an egotistical little boy, true, she also meets the
terribly adorable (for lack of better word) Marshall
Mathers - who enters in such a fairytale
'knight-on-a-white-horse' fashion that from the very
first time we see him, we can't help but be wooed by his
behaviour. I'm sure any female would be smitten with the
way Mr Mathers comes to Taylor's rescue. It had me "aww-ing"
at the screen.
If I had to pick one of
Aimee's true highlights, I suppose you would say, of "A
Night To Remember", I would have to pick her
construction of the protagonist, Taylor Hughes. Aimee
creates such an original character in Taylor and the
details surrounding her. From Taylor's perception of
celebrity life to her nervousness at being around so
many "important" people. Taylor wonders things that I'm
sure we all wonder about the stars. I think this is why
readers can place themselves within Taylor and really
feel what she is feeling. And Aimee does this so well,
with her sophisticated style of writing. This is
definitely a 'must-read'. And this is what I liked best,
Taylor could be one of us, and that is what makes it so
easy to read. I think you'll find yourself substituting
your own name into Taylor's place and watching the
events unfold around you.
Oh, and Aimee creates such
an endearing Marshall. If you don't at least aww
or curse/scream once, I would be surprised. Marshall is
constructed as real also. He is a sweetheart, he is an
ass, but most of all he is believable. And that is the
strong point of Aimee's "A Night To Remember".
This is a story you do NOT
want to miss. Keep up the great work, Aimee. At 7
chapters you have me intrigued and I can't wait for
more. ~ Kate, from the May 2004 222 contest
