Miss You
A song fic inspired by Aaliyah's "I Miss You"
~*~
(It's been too long and I'm lost without you)
(What am I gonna do)
(Said I been needin' you)
(I'm wantin' you)
(Wonderin' if you're the same)
(and who's been with you)
(Is you're heart still mine)
(I want to cry sometimes)
(I miss you)"DeShaun, Don't fuck with me! I heard what you said." Marshall yelled, walking further into the room where his best friend sat.
"Yo, Marshall, calm down. I swear I don't know if they lyin' or not." Proof,
never one to be intimidated, yelled back."Ya better go find out then. I ain't missin my chance this time." Marshall said lowering his voice a bit.
"Yo, I don't know why no one tells us this shit when she actually gets home. She always seems to be leavin' again when you find out." Proof answered him, lowering his voice as well.
(Off to college)
(Yes you went away)
(Straight from high school)
(You up and left me)
(We were close friends)
(Awesome lovers)
(Did everything for one another)
(Now you're gone)
(And I'm lost without you here now)
(But I know I gotta live and make it somehow)
"Aight man, I got the info. Let's get a move on, before she leaves to catch
her plane." Proof yelled into the house, making Marshall come running."I can't believe I didn't think. I shoulda known she'd be back again around
this time." Marshall said, holding his hand on his forehead."We'll get 'er, don't worry, Kid." Proof said back, rubbing his shoulder a
little bit."Proof can you stop touchin' me like that and just drive a little faster?"
Marshall said, raising his voice again."Fuck you, man, I said you need to calm down." Proof yelled back, looking at the road.
(Come back to me)
(Can you hear me)
(Hear me callin' for you)
(For you)
They pulled up an hour later in front of the house Marshall called his second
home when he was growing up. He paused for just a second to take in the house and all the memories it held.
(Now I'm sittin' here)
(Thinkin' 'bout you)
(And the days we used to share)
(It's drivin' me crazy)
(I don't know what to do)
(I'm just wonderin' if you still care)
"You comin'?" Proof called from the walkway."Fuck, yeah, sorry." Marshall mumbled, getting out of the car himself and
rushing to join his friend on the front porch."Go ahead, man, ring the bell." Proof said tapping Marshall's arm.
"Do it for me, man?" Marshall asked, a look of worry now forming on his face.
Proof nodded and lifted his hand to ring the bell just as the front door opened.
"Oh wow." Said the older lady standing in front of them. "You are just in
time." She said, obviously knowing who they were. "She's upstairs."Marshall didn't wait for proof to even be inside before he started running up
the long staircase. When he got to the top, he went straight for the door of the room he'd spent most of his teenage years in. He hesitated for just a minute."Be careful, Marshall. She's still just a baby compared to you." He heard
Proof say, quietly, behind him.Marshall nodded and knocked on the door. He felt himself hold his breath for a few seconds before the door actually opened. the actual sight of her made him need air more than ever, and so he let his breath out quickly.
"My God." He stated as he just stood there staring at her. She was even prettier than he had imagined. Her white tubetop made her tanned skin look even darker, and the jeans she was wearing were pretty tight, flaring at the bottom. The sunglasses on her head had been pushed back slightly to hold her light blonde hair out of her eyes. And that smile. He could never forget that smile for as long as he lived. That was the one thing that hadn't changed at all.
"Slim?" She asked quietly, her eyes filling up with tears.
"Yeah." That's right, she called him Slim. He wondered how many people in his lifetime asked him where he ever came up with "Slim Shady."
She opened her door wider, not so much to let him in, but more to clear out the space between them before she jumped on him.
"My God. I never, ever thought I'd see you again." She cried as she spoke.
"Don't... Don't cry, baby girl, I'm here...Finally, I'm here." He whispered.
"But *I'm* not. I hafta leave Slim. I can't stay here." She said, making her cry even harder.
(I don't want to let you know)
(That it's killin' me)
(I know you got another life)
(You got to concentrate)
(Baby)
(Come back to me)
(Can you hear me)
(Hear me callin' for you)
(For you)
"Please.. Don't leave me again." Marshall whispered."Slim, you know I don't want to. I never wanted to. But I hafta finish at
least. For me. You have your daughter now. We have two different lives. I know that they aren't the way we planned them. But they're the way they turned out." She said, still crying."I'll wait for you." Marshall said quickly. "I'll come there, and get a house
and wait for you there.""Slim, you aren't thinking... What would happen to Hailie if you just up and
followed me? And you know that Kim would never let me back in the picture. *She* had your baby, not me." She finished coldly."But we'd have forever. Just come back to me when you're done school. I swear I'll wait this time. Last time I made a mistake. Without you here to help me, I fucked up. I need you D, more than I have ever needed Kim. Hailie would like you. I know she would. Please." He pleaded with her, holding her in his arms for their last few minutes together.
"I have a boyfriend, Slim." She said simply, wiping a tear from his cheek.
With that last statement, he let her go. Let her just get in the cab and head straight for the airport. He had fucked up. Years ago, at a time when he thought there were no mistakes to be made, he had told a young girl that he loved her and would be waiting for her when she got home from college. This semester was to be her last. And he had lied. He hadn't waited. As another tear slipped onto his cheek, proof put an arm around his best friend, and the two of them turned to walk away from the past forever.
(I can't think no more)
(Since you went away)
(I don't really feel like talkin')
(No one here to love me)
(Baby do you understand me)
(I can't do a thing without you)
