NOTES: vanilla, velvet, daisies, and a tie – Vibe said, when I was complaining I was bored between fictions. THIS is what she got.

 -Leave It Outside-

The scent of vanilla filled his lungs and all he could feel was his consuming need to be near her, to be *with* her, in that old, ancient, intimate way.

But he couldn't be.

She was too far away.

Just across the room and too far…

"Daddy!" The small child sitting his lap said, drawing his attention away from *her*.

"Yeah?"

"Dance wit' me!" She said, sliding off his knees and onto the ground. "C'mon!" She laughed and tugged on his hands.

"Okay, okay," he said and led her out to the dance floor after stealing a glance across the room. She stood on his feet while he swayed them both to the soft music and clutched her against him. He stared behind her though- out further on the balcony where her hair was whisping around her face from the gentle ocean breeze.

He smiled to himself because he couldn't imagine almost *not* having that. And he'd almost let it *go*.

"C'mere, Hai," Marshall said, picking her up and she immediately wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs wrapped around her father's waist a bit and she rested on his shoulder. "See? Ain't this better, Baby?"

"Uh huh," she said, cuddling into him as he swayed to the music. He enjoyed feeling the soft velvet of her dress under his hands as he rubbed her back soothingly.

"I love you, Hailie, *so* much," he whispered.

"LoveyoutooDaddy," she yawned sleepily.

He rested his head against hers and turned slowly around so he could look out to the balcony, but *she* wasn't there anymore. But before he could turn and look for her again, he felt arms wrap around his waist and her chin was resting on his other shoulder- with a soft peck of her lips on his cheek. "Looking for me?"

"Yeah," he said before capturing her lips again. He wanted nothing more than to deepen the kiss and never stop.

Her hand joined his around the now drowsy child. "She out?" He asked.

"Almost," she answered. "Been a long day," she said, gently running her fingers through Hailie's hair. She pulled the yellow tie out so it wouldn't get tangled as she slept and with it, came the small daisy they'd placed in her hair that morning. "Maybe we should…"

"Yeah. Most everyone's gone anyway," he said, glancing around. The crowd had dwindled a lot and the few that remained quietly said their goodbye's as he walked by them with the sleeping seven-year-old.

She carried the tie and flower in one hand and Hailie's shoes in the other as they made their way to the elevators.

"Want me to take her?" She asked.

"Nah- she's comfy- don't wanna wake her, either," he shrugged before glancing over her body. The dress clung to her in all the right places and revealed just enough of *all* the places and he had to remind himself that he held his sleeping daughter in his arms and he could not just put her down and ravish the woman standing beside him.

"Why, Mr. Mathers," she asked coyly, "Are you checking me out?"

"I believe I have a right to, don't I?" He asked, before adding, "*Mrs.* Mathers?"

She smiled softly. "Does have a nice ring to it, don't it?"

"Yeah," he nodded and the doors opened and he followed her down the hall to where she opened their suite with her keycard.

He carried her into the second bedroom of the suite and gently placed her in the bed. "Just leave her dress on- she can sleep in it."

"Aiight," he replied before pulling the covers over her and kissing her forehead.

"Night, Daddy," she murmured as she turned on her side a bit. "Mommy?"

"Right here, Hailie," Kim said, kissing the sleepy child as well. "Go to sleep, okay?’Member? Swimmin' on the beach tomorrow like we said."

"Yeah," she smiled brightly before drifting off again.

She followed him out of the room and closed the door behind her. "I'ma check on Whit quick."

"Me too," he said, taking his wife's hand in his. Together, they opened the door to the adjoining room and peaked into what had become the fourteen-month-old's room. "Sleepin' like a baby," he whispered.

"Okay, good," she said, as they left the room. "And now…"

"*Now*," he said, slipping his arms around her waist, "I get to make love to my new wife," he whispered in her ear before kissing her neck softly.

"Ever think you'd see the day?" She asked as they walked, his arms around her, toward their bedroom.

"Seems like the most *un*likely of *most* likely things."

She laughed a bit, "makes a certain kind of… sense. Doesn't it?"

She opened the door but he held her back. "Ain't I supposed to carry you over the threshold or some shit?"

"We never *did* that before," she said.

"Oh, well- c'mere," he said before sweeping her up into his strong arms. "Don't hit your head," he added.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and said, "don't *hit* my head." He walked through the door, which she kicked shut on their way through.

He placed her gently on the bed and stared at her for a few seconds. "See? *That's* what we did wrong… ya know- among other things," he stated. "But that's all in the past- let's leave it where it belongs."

And they did just that.

They left it outside.
