Chances Are

**NOTES: This is a song fic centered around *Life Changes* it could be anywhere between Chapter 5 and 10 (I think) but before 11..if that makes any sense...song credit goes to Bob Seger/Martina McBride...song title is 'Chances Are'

**Chances are you'll find me
Somewhere on your road tonight
Seems I always end up driving by
Ever since I've known you
It just seems you're on my way**

Marshall couldn't get her out of his head...*Brianna*...her name crashed through him like a tornado. Destroying everything in it's path. He didn't want to feel these things that he was feeling for her. He didn't want to love her. He didn't want this ache that'd made it's home at the bottom of his stomach but he couldn't stop it. Her magic was too powerful. Her essence was too strong. Her beauty was too rich. She was ever so slowly driving him insane. He longed too hold her, just hold her, that'd be enough to sooth the ache that was wrapped like a cloak around his tattered heart. That'd be enough loosen the knots that formed in his stomach everytime her fragile face floated through his mind...

**All the rules of logic don't apply
I long to see you in the night
Be with you 'til morning light**

Marshall's foot hit the brakes and he slowly cruised and came to a complete stop in front of her house. He could see the lights shining brightly through the living room window. Her silouette shined like a beacon reaching out to him as she moved across the living room and his heart stirred. Why did it have to be this way? He didn't want this shit. He didn't need it but he had it none the less. Love. What a tricky emotion that could be. Some people search an entire lifetime trying desperately to capture the enigma that is love. Not him, he didn't want it. He'd been through enough trauma where love was concerned but it had found him against his will and sunk it's teeth in, so why? he asked himself again for the millionth time why, if he was destined to love her, why, didn't she love him back?

**I remember clearly how you looked
The night we met
I recall your laugter and your smile
I remember how you made me
Feel so at ease
I remember all your grace and your style**

He couldn't stop his mind from traveling back to that fateful day in a Mc Donald's (of all places). The way her beatuty and grace had taken his breath away. The way her shyness had made him smile. The way her simplicity had touched a part of him that had been buried just underneath the surface for far too long. She'd made him feel *real*, *human*, a feeling he hadn't felt in so long. She made him feel comfortable in his own skin. He didn't have to put on a show for her. She didn't care who he was! To her he was just Marshall, a flesh and blood man.

**And now you're all I long to see
You've come to mean so much to me**

The memory of her soft, gentle lips moving gracefully over his made him tingle. Her lips were potent and far to powerful. She'd taken him under with no more than a kiss. He'd been lost to her. His heart had softened. His soul had soared. She had taken him to places he'd only been in dreams. Unrealistic places that only fools believed in. 'Guess I'm just as much of a fool' he thought ironically because she'd made him believe that those places truly do exist. She made him belive in the magic, the power of love...

**Chances are I'll see you
In my dreams tonight
You'll be smiling like the night we met
Chances are I'll hold you and I'll offer
All I have**

He'd give her the world. It was hers, if only she'd take it but she wouldn't take it. She didn't want what he wanted to give and that pain ran deep. He had *never* wanted to give another woman the things that he wanted to give her. His love, his trust. God, his trust alone was something that he swore he would never give another human again, ever. It hurt, far too much that she wouldn't take it.

**You're the only one I can't forget
Baby, you're the best I've ever met**

Woman came through his life by the thousands and none of them meant anything. They were tools, mere vehicles he used for his pleasure but not her, never her. She was special. Couldn't she see that? She was different. He wanted her for *forever*. He wanted to build a life with her. Build a home with her. Make babies with her. He just wanted her.

**And I'll be dreaming of the future
And hoping you'll be by my side
And the morning I'll be longing for the night
For the night**

He started his car and slowly pulled away from the curb, glancing back at her silouette framed in the window. 'I'm here' he silently called to her 'right here, waiting...'

The End...
